Spread the word

One of the most powerful actions you can take to support my work is to tell others about it. Show other people you love the parts of my work that you appreciate and tell them why you find this meaningful. Individual dialogue goes a long way. Thank you for sharing!

Engage on YouTube

To be better able to provide you with excellent educational content with no required paywall, I have chosen to monetize my YouTube channel. I have a goal of putting the money I earn on my videos back into content creation. Some easy ways you can support my authorship work is to engage with my YouTube channel by doing any of the following:

  • Subscribe to my Jeff Anderson Math YouTube channel.

  • Watch any video that you like and engage with the content. My videos are designed for deep learning, not click bait. In other words, the more you watch, the more you’ll learn. I encourage my audience to look at the descriptions to my videos, click on the links I provide, and to actively take notes while watching. If we do this right, you can transform your whole life in ways that you care about by engaging with my content.

  • Click that like button whenever you feel the urge. This simple act indicates to YouTube’s algorithms that you value my work. When a video accrues many likes, this increases traffic to my YouTube page and results in more earnings for my channel.

  • Write comments on any video that touches your heart. One of my goals is to create community and I love the idea that learners come together to experience the content I create as part of a larger team of learners. I invite you to engage and I hope we can grow together. When you comment, you help us build a community around learning and mathematics.

I do appreciate that YouTube allows me to monetize my video production work. The basic idea of this business model is that Google (the parent company of YouTube) collects money from advertisers. In return, Google plays short ads at the start of many videos. Google then shares $0.55 out of every $1.00 of ad revenue with me as a content creator. In this model, the more engagement my YouTube Channel generates, the more money I earn through this program.

Let me be clear: I detest the idea of selling advertisements on my content. I believe advertisements are a form of propaganda used to manufacture consent in the minds of the viewer for a less democratic society. I prefer a world where we live free from advertisements and free from legal corruption. I prefer a world where we fix our corruption problem and wield much greater democratic control of our government. Because of these beliefs, I much prefer direct subscriptions via Patreon, collecting direct one-time contributions from my community, and doing consulting work to transform college STEM education. If I had the choice, I would opt out of selling advertisements on my videos. However, YouTube does not give me that choice: they sell advertisements against my videos regardless of my personal aversion to this practice. Given that reality, of course I prefer to collect some of that revenue to support my projects rather than to cede all the money that my work generates to YouTube.

Support me on Patreon.com

The most helpful form of financial support you can provide is a subscription to my Jeff Anderson Math Patreon page. Through that site, you can pledge any amount you want (as little as $1) per month. By pledging a routine monthly contribution, you give me access to consistent income to support my projects. This is immensely helpful for planning purposes. I chose to ask for recurring monthly payments (rather than a certain amount per video) with the intention of buying out portions of my teaching contract during the normal school year. This will release my time in service mode to students so that I can work on my content creation projects during daylight hours.

Give a one-time donations

Recurring financial support via monthly subscriptions through Patreon are very helpful for planning future projects. However, some people have asked me about one-time donations. While I much prefer the monthly subscription model, of course I am willing to accept contributions through one-time payments. To make such a contribution, please use any of the methods below:

Purchase JAM Merchandise

I plan to develop Jeff Anderson Math (JAM) shirts, coffee mugs, posters, and other swag to sell for a small profit. When I do so, I will funnel this money back into my content creation projects to provide excellent educational content to the world that I give away for free. Whenever you buy my merch, you become part of a community of people fighting for better student learning in college STEM classes. Thank you for being part of this fight and cheers to your learning journey.

Engage with my WordPress blogs

One of my goals is to be part of and help create a larger community around alternative visions for college STEM education. To do this, I build content that empowers learners and educators to re-imagine their relationship with learning in school.

Some day, I may publish books to highlight the ideas that I’ve developed in the 15+ years of my career teaching. I can think of at least 5 different books I can publish that would provide lots of value to readers. However, I feel strongly that I want all of the major ideas I’ve develop to be available to my readers without a paywall. Thus, my model for writing is to flush out the most powerful ideas I generate in blog post format. Then, at some future date, I may decide to publish books that represent a better-researched version of the same fundamental principles that I include in my blog posts and other open-access publications.

I plan to channel any and all revenues that I might generate in published books back into my content creation projects and my students. When the time comes to submit my book proposal letter to a publishing company, I will be in a much stronger position if I can show that my work has a large audience and represents powerful ideas that make a difference in the lives of my readers.

With this in mind, I ask you for the following: if you enjoy the work I produce and value my writing, please do any or all of the following to show your support:

  • Follow my Jeff Anderson Math blog.

  • Read any of my blog posts that you like and engage with the content.

  • If you enjoy a blog post, click the WordPress like button. This simple act shows other readers your support.

  • Write comments on any blog post that touches your heart.

  • Share my work with a friend, colleague, or family member that you feel would appreciate it.

Hire me as a Consultant

Another way I fund my content creation projects is through consulting work. I provide educational consulting services to college teachers and institutions who want to transform and enhance their teaching policies to improve student learning including:

  1. I give academic talks on alternative assessment, research-based learning, applied linear algebra, and re-envisioning mathematics education.

  2. I run training seminars on alternative assessment and re-imaging linear algebra

  3. I provide targeted coaching to college instructors who want to improve their teaching.

If you are interested in working with me, please reach out to me via email (I trust you can find my email address online).

When you pay for my work as a consultant, I channel that revenue back into my content creation projects. Your contributions help me continue to write my linear algebra and MATLAB textbooks, produce free YouTube videos with a goal of ensuring full ADA compliance, and generate meta-learning activities to help college students become more effective learners. All of this work I provide with no required paywall. In other words, I work towards two goals as an educational consultant:

  1. I want to support college educators in becoming more effective teachers by developing research-based teaching policies and practices that propel student learning.

  2. I want to use my consulting revenues to fund my content creation work so that I can provide high-quality, open-access learning resources. To learn more about my consulting work, click here.

Follow my other work

My goal as an author and content creator is to provide valuable, rich, and engaging content to enhance both linear algebra education and to support individuals in my community in becoming strategic deep learners. I feel strongly that I want to provide 100% of the content I create to my communities with no required paywall. I choose to fund my content creation projects through grass-roots contributions. This is a challenging task. I hold very high standards for myself. I expect that my work makes a substantial and meaningful difference in the lives of learners who engage with the content I create.

I am not paid to do this work as part of my full-time job as a community college math instructor. Thus, to do the type of work I believe my students and larger communities deserve, I create alternate funding sources to support my efforts to create high-quality content. This process of turning to my community to fund my projects ensures that I can provide all my content to the world with no required paywall.
